Meets
The fees of meets will be £28 for Fri/Sun ('weekend') meets, and hover around £20/£25 for Sat/Sun ('1day') meets. Weekend meets include transport, food and accommodation but exclude gear (see rental fees below). One day meets are held at the beginning of the year and their fee includes gear rental.
You will need to bring some extra money for food (or some actual food) whilst travelling to and for the meet (£10 should cover it), and for sundries during the weekend, as we sometimes go to the pub after a trip.
The club's Meet Accounting Policy gives full details of the costs.
Equipment
Gear rental prices per day
- Undesuit + oversuit + helmet: £1.50
- Harness: £0.50
- SRT kit + harness: £1.00
- Light: £0.50
- Wellies, Knepads, Belt: free
CUCC supplies all the equipment needed for caving. You can carry on renting CUCC gear for as long as you need but at some point you will want to buy your own so you get stuff that actually fits properly. This is usually done in stages as the whole lot is quite expensive: wellies, undersuit, oversuit, kneepads (£120); SRT kit (£180); Helmet and Light (£120). Bargains can be found on Ebay.
Insurance and membership
New cavers get 17 days' free insurance from the club in order to try caving, starting from the first training session or meet you attend. After these 17 days, insurance and membership need to be paid in order to continue caving.
Insurance fees for 2011/2012 are:
- January-December 2012: £8 for students; £16 for non-students
- Final quarter of 2011: £2 for students, £4 for non-students
NOTE: If insurance for the final quarter is needed, this has to be paid together with the annual insurance for the year after, totalling £10 for students; £20 for non-students.
Club membership is £6 and is paid together with the insurance.
